Welcome to Parenterals On-Line Database
tutorial page. This tutorial will walk you through different features
of the database. Using the Parenterals Database is easy. Spend a few
minutes following the tutorial below and you will be ready to reap
the complete benefits of having parenteral information at your finger
tips. You will be able to find the information you need for parenteral
products approved by the FDA.
| When you click on the Parenterals Database
link from the Home page (1), you will come to the Parenterals
welcome page (2). Click on "Login to enter Parenteral database"
button and it will lead you to the login screen (3). At the
login screen, please enter your username and password.
If you are not a member, please register to use
the Parenterals Database. |
|
|
|
Once you have logged into the
database, you will see the Parenterals home page. You can search or
navigate through the database using two different paths. You can use
the "List By" column on the left hand side of the page (1),
or you can use the "Search By" row centered near the top
of the page (2).
With the "List By" option, you can sort parenterals information
by companies, products, etc. After such a sort, you can browse through
the alphabetized listing by using the "Browse By Letter"
feature (3). |
|
|
Let us explore the "List By"
column first, and below you will see how to search through the database
using the Search By row.
If you search by Companies (1), you will see an alphabetical listing
of companies that have parenteral products in the market(2). If you
are interested in a particular company, you can use the Browse By
Letter feature to drill-down to that particular company. If there
is more than a page full of entries for any letter you have chosen
to browse, you can access more companies at the bottom of the screen.
If you click on any company name you are interested in, the system
will bring up a list of parenteral products for that company (3).
By choosing a product name, you will obtain complete details of the
selected product, including ingredients, indications, routes of administration,
purpose of ingredients, and concentrations of the actives and excipients
(4). |
|
|
| Other "List By" categories
can be searched in much the same way as the Companies example immediately
above. See the Active Ingredients search example below. |
|
|
| Now, let us look at the "Search
the Parenterals Knowledge Base by" row. On the left hand side
is a pull down menu for categories. You can search "All categories"
or you can choose to search a particular category. The box on the
right hand side allows you to enter and search for a keyword. The
results of a keyword search, however, depend on what you select in
the category menu. In some cases, for example if you choose excipient
function or route of administration as the category, you will see
that the keyword box automatically becomes a drop down menu. This
is done to show all available keywords in a category. This is done
to eliminate any confusion regarding the terminologies used in different
organizations. To walk through a scenario (1)... If you would like
to see what are the approved drugs for the indication of "cold", choose
Disease Indication on the category menu and type "cold" in the keyword
box. Then click on the GO button. This will bring up a list of products
that have any products used for an indication of cold (2). Click on
a product to see the complete details for that product (3).
|
|
|
| Below is an example of the keyword box becoming a
drop down menu. Choose "Excipient Purpose" on the category menu. As
soon as you choose that category, you will see that the keyword box
automatically becomes a drop down menu. Choose "Excipient Purpose"
you are looking for and press the GO button. This will bring up the
corresponding excipients that can be used for that purpose. |

|
Another powerful way of looking for information,
especially if you want to create question-like queries, is to use
the Advanced Search mechanism to search through the Parenteral Database.
You can specify a combination of values in different fields and
search by an "OR" or "AND" logic. To use the advanced search, fill
in the keywords you want to search for and click on the GO button.
Below is an example of how to use the Advanced Search.
Suppose you want to find out if there has been any approved parenterals
product from Abbott Labs with Propylene Glycol as an "ingredient",
you would put "Abbott" in the company field and "Propylene Glycol"
in the ingredient field and click on GO button. The search logic
used here would be "and". This will bring up a list of
products that have the ingredient Propylene Glycol in a product
manufactured by Abbott Labs. Clicking on the product will provide
you the details of the product.
